Hope is a Decision We Can Make: Even when it’s hard
“Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.”
I thought I coined that phrase. Then I Googled it to double check myself. Turns out it’s from President Snow in The Hunger Games. Not exactly the role model I had in mind. Still — dystopian dictator or not — the line holds up.
As Brené Brown puts it, “Hope is not an emotion; it's a way of thinking.” It’s a practical tool. A pattern of thought.
And therefore a choice.
Hope is a break for our mind, a break from the problems, paralysis, disconnection that sadness and fear foster… a break for our wellbeing of course, but a mindset too for us to focus on the ways forward now, the things we can be doing, the solution focused thinking necessary for action and connection.Hope is a decision we can make.Even when it’s hard.
