Leadership Modules

These modules have been designed to help leaders lead courageously, to develop trust and safety in their teams, and to work collaboratively enabling cultures of diversity that are capable of change.

Sustainable, committed, and agile leaders learn up-to-date tools and techniques. They are connected with themselves, connected with the responsibility of leadership in driving culture and performance and they are connected to each other, creating an internal network of leaders.

Dr Amy Silver’s Leader Modules enable people leaders to identify and cultivate the behaviours and habits they need to lift their individual and collective performance.

With the right tools and techniques, leaders can develop high-performance habits and role model the behaviours they want to see in the team.

These modules fit either in existing leadership or high potential programs or can be curated into a full leadership program.

Our leaders are our culture lynchpins.

To invest in our future, we must focus leaders attention on the knowledge and skills required to lead through complexity.

Topic Examples

  • Developing Trust

    • The why

    • Builders and detractors of trust

    • How to build it

Influence is the outcome of trust. We cannot rely on control or hierarchical position to do that. If people feel in any way coerced or minimised by you or your behaviour, it is human nature for them to use protective behaviours. Generally, this looks like resisting or avoiding (the flight response), or maybe even criticising and rejecting (the fight response). These responses undermine your success and make it hard for you to lead. Participants will learn the three crucial areas of driving trust (being trusting, being trustworthy, and having compassionate and courageous conversations). We will also introduce a planner to establish a clear self-report measure of trust-building that enables clear goals, commitments, and actions.

  • How to drive psychologically safety through leadership

    • The why, and the responsibility of leaders

    • What is it and how do we know we have/don’t have it

    • How to build it

Psychological safety is proven to be the determinant of high-performing teams. When we feel safe with someone, their influential power over us is immense and infinite. It is crucial for a team to not only be inclusive but to develop the skills required in creating cognitive diversity, challenge each other or status quo constructively, and ensure we fight the natural comfort of groupthink. This workshop heightens participants' awareness of this crucial metric and develops a shared understanding of and commitment to psychological safety. It helps participants understand the literature/research/theories that demonstrate our continued focus in this area. It ensures commitment to the behaviours synonymous with best practice in this area both within individual roles, and as role models to the wider business. It builds the narrative of driving psychological safety through the collective in the wider team (with a continued lens on safety in context and compassion and courage in behaviour). Leadership has a weighty role to play in determining the psychological safety of the wider group.

  • How to have courageous conversations

    • The cost of absent conversations (or crucial messages)

    • Why we don’t and how to override our avoidance

    • Templates for success

Avoiding conversations or being too head first in our conversations can have disastrous impacts not only in the moment but on our growth as individuals, our impact on growth for others, and our collective growth. Leadership uses the tool of communication. Without being courageous in our conversations we limit growth, reduce potential and contribution, and foster complacency and hidden, offline conversations that waste time and energy. Leaders need to face the skill of developing courage (without compromising trust). This session will highlight the choices we make in communication and how conscious communication is the skill of a high-performing leader. Participants will committ to not putting their own discomfort above the growth of others. This is the perfect session for those who want to learn to lead with courage and compassion through conversations that create growth-enabling cultures of feedback and growth loops.

  • How to manage emotions for success

    • self-awareness and self-monitoring

    • Education about the creation of space between reaction and response

    • How to calm the amygdala and manage state for success

Our emotions can help or hinder our performance. Understanding our emotions, how we experience them, when we experience them and how we then respond to them is crucial for self-leadership. The alternative is that we remain unconscious of these critical drivers of our behaviour, or we build an external persona that doesn't represent our internal one. Both these options are very dangerous for our sustainable leadership. This workshop helps participants, understand the relationship between resilience, thoughts, and emotions and take responsibility for changing their responses to them. They will learn tools to evaluate thinking and create useful habits of thinking (including self-compassion) and develop a framework for managing difficult situations. There will also be attention to reducing generalised stress and the habits that support healthy thinking and emotional wellbeing. Participants will use a reusable template for a 'meeting with self' and a list of practical tools to help maintain emotional agility during times of distress and/or high stress.

  • How to lead with courage

    • What is courage and where is mine evident

    • How does fear inhibit me and is that ok?

    • My experiments to move forward as a courageous leader

In any group of people, we can become unconscious in our practice, being more consumed with the now than the future, more consumed with the detail than the big picture, more consumed with task than relationships. We become reactive and not strategic with our choices. The pressure on all of us in our VUCA world is intense and the last few years have added significant challenges. This workshop helps leaders identify what we want as leaders and how fear and courage relate to both the wellbeing and high performance of your team. The impact of psychological safety on our teams is proven and our responsibility as leaders is enormous. We will cover how to assess the psychological safety of your team and the three crucial ingredients to raise it (hope, clear boundaries and positive regard). We will practice the key conversations recommended for you to have with your team that foster psychological safety so leaders can take them back to team meetings and one on ones.

Additional options:

2. Group coaching with Amy

This powerful group process allows for a number of opportunities to be given to participants. Each individual will experience a process that will help them clarify their goals, establish key learning needs, and drive the project for themselves. This program is for 7 months and is for a group of a maximum of 8 people, a minimum of 6 people. The sessions are monthly (usually online) and have a very regular structure and time space in people's calendars. Full commitment to the dates and to the group is required by all participants. Amy can provide guidance on who would be suitable and how we can use the coaching groups to foster the non-specifics that are so valuable for cross-function or geographically dispersed participants in fostering internal cultures of connected leaders. Each 180min session consists of:

  • check-in on the key metrics established early in the work

  • stop, start, continue check, and review

  • a personal project. Each session will include a report/presentation from one of the participants on an area of leadership that they want to focus on e.g. servant leadership, public speaking, feedback

  • the theme of the month. This will include content from Amy on the value of the topic, the how-to, and the next practice/homework piece. Themes will emerge from the first session but will most likely include self-leadership, trust, influence, communication, courage, safety, collective intelligence and empowering leadership purpose and values, inhibitors to leadership

  • planning for the month, key non-negotiables, key experiments, key goals, and commitments to each other.

The program finishes with a self-report on gains made and the journey of leadership through this process. This can be presented in a number of ways e.g. just to the coaching group, to other colleagues.

Investment for one group (8 people): $44,000+gst

3. Individual coaching for leaders

The sessions with Amy take place online.

Option 1
Amy will work with you at a deep level, booking seven one-on-one sessions fortnightly at first and then monthly to take us to a 6/7month program. Included in this is an initial assessment and strategy planning session followed by focused conversations to gain movement on the key emotions/behaviours/thinking patterns identified. Reading/watching/listening material is recommended, relevant books, and some self-report measures are also used to help guide our work. Content is completely bespoke and the theoretical/practical leanings are taken from evidence-based insights on behavioural change and leadership (using models of psychology including CBT, CAT, BT, ACT and MBT).
Investment: $10,995+gst
